The Scholarship and Welfare Fund (S&W), an independent, tax-exempt membership corporation, was established in 1949 by a group of Hunter College graduates to provide financial assistance to qualified students who might not otherwise remain in college. The Fund has continued to give aid to students through the generosity of alumni, friends and families who wish to help today’s students.

S&W furnishes student support in the following categories:

1. UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS: awards for well-qualified students, eligible for financial aid.

2. HUNTER SCHOLARS PROGRAM: full tuition to highly qualified students to attend Hunter for four years. Academic standards must be met at the end of each year to continue in the program.

3. DORMITORY SCHOLARS AWARD: offers dormitory awards to selected members of our S&W Hunter Scholars, for as long as they stay qualified as S&W Hunter Scholars, to live in Hunter’s residence halls.

4. GRADUATE AWARDS PROGRAM: awards to graduating seniors for their first year of study at graduate schools.

5. SPECIAL NEEDS: contributions to the Dean of Students Emergency Fund and to the AccessABILITY Program that assists students with disabilities. Such help might include: readers, signers, large type computer screens, as well as guidance for students with special problems.

6. MUSIC DEPARTMENT AWARDS: to provide funds for private lessons for music majors who would not be able to reach the level of proficiency they need as professionals without such lessons.

7. THOMAS HUNTER HONORS PROGRAM: support for some of the students who are selected for this outstanding study opportunity.

8. PUBLIC SERVICE SCHOLARS PROGRAM: support for selected scholars in the Public Service Scholarship program.

9. AccessABILITY PROGRAM: support for the AccessABILITY program at Hunter.

10. MACAULAY HONORS COLLEGE PROGRAM: support for scholars in the Macaulay program.

11. INCOMING GRADUATE AWARDS: funding for students attending Hunter for Graduate studies who did not attend Hunter as undergraduates.

12. SPECIAL GRADUATE PROGRAMS AT HUNTER: support for special masters programs at Hunter in Creative Writing, Studio Arts and Integrated Media Arts.

Scholarship help for our students is important for our students, particularly in view of costs today. It is a responsible way to return to Hunter what Hunter gave us.

Thank your for your support of our students.
