Winter 2019-2020 Update

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We’re looking forward to a busy and interesting 2020. Our chapters will be holding events, and we will be gearing up to celebrate our College’s Sesquicentennial at this spring’s Birthday Luncheon. Meanwhile our meetings and activities continue, and we hope to see some new faces this year. Come share the Hunter spirit and find your place in the great tradition that began on Feb. 14, 1870.

Do you have some personal or professional news to share? Anything you want the Hunter College community to know? Please send your news items to us at alumniofhunter@gmail.com.

Do you have Hunter friends who aren’t getting our emails? Please ask them to send us their email addresses, or go to our web site and sign up!

See you soon!

A Bit of Hunter History

February 14, 1870

On this date the Female Normal College and High School, as our college was known at the beginning, opened for classes, with over a thousand students. This was the first free public higher education for women anywhere in the country, and it was racially integrated from the start, in keeping with the vision of our founder, renowned educator Dr. Thomas Hunter.

And how did the Normal College get its current name? Watch this space. We’ll explain it all in our Spring Update!
